כשמשווים בין שני דברים משתמשים ב-comparative (גדול יותר), וכשמדברים על הכי-הכי בין כמה משתמשים ב-superlative: 'My bag is bigger than yours' ו-'This is the biggest bag in the class'.

לתואר קצר (הברה אחת, או שתיים שמסתיימות ב-y) מוסיפים er ואחריו than. לתואר ארוך (שלוש הברות ומעלה, ורבים משתי הברות) מוסיפים more לפני התואר, ואחריו than.
- Dan is taller than Gil.—דן גבוה יותר מגיל.
- This book is more interesting than that one.—הספר הזה מעניין יותר מהספר ההוא.

Superlative — הכי…
לתואר קצר מוסיפים the + est. לתואר ארוך מוסיפים the most לפני התואר. בדרך כלל מוסיפים 'in' או 'of' אחרי כדי להגיד מבין מי.
- Noa is the fastest runner in the class.—נועה היא הרצה הכי מהירה בכיתה.
- It was the most beautiful day of the year.—זה היה היום הכי יפה בשנה.

יש כמה תארים שמשנים צורה לגמרי. כדאי לשנן אותם.

כשהשניים שווים משתמשים ב-as + תואר + as. בשלילה: not as … as (לא כל כך … כמו).
- My brother is as tall as my dad.—אחי גבוה כמו אבא שלי.
- This test was not as hard as the last one.—המבחן הזה לא היה קשה כמו הקודם.
טעויות נפוצות
✗ She is more taller than me.
✓ She is taller than me.
לא משלבים more עם er — בוחרים אחד מהם.
✗ He is the most fast.
✓ He is the fastest.
תואר קצר מקבל est, לא 'most'.
✗ This is gooder.
✓ This is better.
good הוא תואר לא רגיל: better ו-best.
מילת המפתח להשוואה בין שניים היא than. כשיש the ואחריו הכי-הכי, זה superlative.
